Tooth Spurs, Eye Problem and Paraphimosis
N.B.. The most common cause of paraphimosis is a fur ring, If a fur ring has been eliminated as the cause then it can also be a symptom of other problems. more information Chinwags - Fur Rings.

Recap Tiger has been having his incisors trimmed every 5 weeks since April 1999 see Incisors
In September 2002 he received antibiotic eye drops for a gummy left eye. A few weeks later I became concerned because his eye looked smaller than usual although there was no discharge.

On our November visit for his incisor trim I mentioned his eye and he was prescribed fulcithalmic eye drops as it was inflamed. The following morning while administering the drops I noticed the tip of his penis was exposed. I could find no evidence of a fur ring but I also could not rectify his problem. The vet could also find no hair ring but were able to pop his penis back in. We had the same problem the following day a Friday. Armed with KY jelly I was determined to cope myself over the weekend but did not succeed and was then unable to get an appointment I could make for the Monday. By this time on the theory that he may have scratched his eye then cleaned his paw I stopped using the eye drops lest this was a cause. Tiger was admitted to the clinic for the day on the Tuesday returning that evening.

Wednesday morning we were back to square one this time he stayed at the vets for 12 days. During this time he received a full course of the eye drops and his eye was bathed, antibiotic injections and his penis was replaced each morning. (He had his own food, bed and a few toys to remind him of home) on the Monday he was anaethetised and a Purse String Suture was used so that he could still pee but his penis would stay in it's sheaf. His teeth were examined and a spur found on a back right molar.

The suture was removed on the Friday morning and he returned home on the Monday once the vets were sure his problem had been resolved.

From Ian who had a similar problem with Morecambe

I noticed the problem but didn't take him to the vets for 2 days. I left him at the vets for a week, when I went to collect him he still had the same problem but the vet said everything would be okay and not to worry. I managed to get a real vets address from Lynda (Chins Unlimited Forum) and took him down that night. He was in that vets for 4 days and he managed to fix him without the need for a suture. I was glad he was fixed but i was not a happy chappy that the other vet didn't have a clue. I have no idea what the cause was. The first I noticed was some blood on his cuttlefish.
