Teeth

Symptoms - Losing weight, mostly acting normally but occasional days when she was obviously poorly and not eating. Long incisor teeth.

Possible symptom? A complete change in character, from timid and shy to a lively extrovert although this may just have been that she had settled with me in her new home!

Diagnosis/Treatment - Initially had her incisors trimmed and was booked in for molar examination under anaesthetic where no problems were found.

For six months she had her incisors trimmed regularly and she continued to have her ‘off' days including one day when one eye was virtually closed. A second examination under anaesthetic was performed.

This time a very rotten molar was found which was removed. As, when I was contacted, she had already recovered from the anaesthetic I decided to give her a chance although the prognosis was poor. The gap between her teeth meant there was very little chance of her teeth wearing normally and further operations would be necessary.

Three (traumatic) weeks later we decided her quality of life was very poor and she was put to sleep.

This was in the UK in 1996
