Symptoms - Slowness in eating.

NB. At this relatively early stage in my pet ownership I foolishly ignored the advice to weigh my pets regularly. Had I done so this may well have been an early indication of problems.

Diagnosis - Examination under anaesthetic revealed Sparky's Molars were wearing diagonally into sharp points. These points were cutting into her gums as she ate. After the operation she required antibiotics administered orally twice a day.

Prior to diagnosis I was warned that she may only need one operation, she may go months between operations or she may only go weeks.

Sadly Sparky only went three weeks between operations, she had trouble eating but would eat crumbled pellets and milk substitute formula sprinkled with wheat germ. However she needed antibiotics each time, which was stressful for her, and after three operations in seven weeks my vet advised me that further treatment would be unfair, I agreed to have her put to sleep. It was a hard decision as between operations there were a few days when she could eat normally and was her usual bright self.

This was in the UK in 1994

Have you had a happier outcome to similar situations?
