Mousey - Mousey

From Christina

I live in Canada and it can get quite hot here during the summer months. One warm day I let Mousey Mousey out for a run and we were in the top part of the house - the warmest part. I wasn't thinking about the heat. When our playtime was over, I decided to bring her down the cooler part of the house where I decided to watch the telly. I don't usually do this - but for some reason I kept the cage right next to me as I settled down to watch a TV show. Within minutes I noticed Mousey Mousey staggering around in her cage like a little drunk. It dawned on me in an instant that she must have had heat frustration. I remembered reading in my chinchilla book to immerse the lower part of their body in cold water should that ever happen. I shouted for my hubby to run some cold water in the sink while I got Mousey Mousey out of her cage. Thank goodness for my quick reaction and the fact the I had read my chinchilla 'bible' very carefully so that I knew what to do in an instant. I am also thankful for the sixth sense that I had to keep her so close by as usually I would have put her back in her room and wouldn't have even been aware of her predicament. Within about an hour Mousey Mousey had recuperated and a quick visit to the vets the following day confirmed that she had survived the ordeal without any damage!
